Meet Jordan Tuffy - 2018 Torque Sponsored Rider

12/5/2018

Jordan Tuffy, another of Torque's Sponsored Riders for this year, gave us a quick interview during his last visit to Torque HQ.

How did you first get into the off road biking scene?
I started a long time ago. I sort of fell out of it for a little while. I did motocross racing when I was younger and picked it up again in my twenties. When I was about 23 I started racing competitively, getting better and better, and winning!  I started training more and getting really much more into it.

What bike do you have?
I’m on a 2016 KTM EXC 300. I’ve always liked KTM bikes so when I landed a better job I was able to buy my own off-road bike. I liked the 300 as it’s more powerful and reliable and generally I don’t go for the 125’s

What's your dream bike?
Off road? I think I’ve probably got it! I’ve always liked KTM and the 300 EXC is something I’ve always wanted.
On road? Probably a Ducati Desmosedici. When I was younger, I always wanted one. Then when they brought out the limited production line I thought “I’m gonna get it, I’m gonna get it” but I didn’t and I probably never will

How was last season’s racing?
I did pretty well last year, I focused on the TBEC Championship, the idea was to come in the top 5. I managed to come in the top two so I came second overall and second in Elite which I was really really happy with. I did a few side races as well. Ended on Mud, Sweat and Gears and came third in Expert which I was quite happy with as well.

What did you learn from last season?
The main thing I learnt from it was to hold back a little. When I started the season I was very much “Go, go, go! Gotta take that line. Gotta take that gap!” About half way through the season I started to back off and that’s when I really started to learn and become properly competitive in the club.

So what will you do differently this season?
Because I've learnt to back off, I can be more aggressive in certain places, so I can understand the track a lot more, find my lines, wait for them and when the time comes be a lot more aggressive at that point. So that’s what I’m going to do this season

What is your goal for this season?
One is to enter one round of the British Enduro Championship to see sort of what level I’m at cos I’ve never ridden in it.

Then to ride a few of the South East Enduro combines, I really want to ride a few of them cos it’s based on the same sort of format as the BEC which is timecard. I’m going to hop around and do a few TBEC’s hopefully with a top 3 finish maybe even try for  1st this year. I got a couple of firsts last year but another few this year would be nice and then race a few Enduroland series as well as random clubs  such as  Linconshire Enduro Club and Portsmouth Motorcycle Club.

What is your ultimate goal?
I want to try and win Clubman in the British Enduro Championship in E3 class, that’s something I’d really like to do and then hopefully get up into expert. If I’m sort of mid to top level expert then that's really something I’d like to achieve. I’d love to try Sea to Sky. I don’t know if I’d be any good at Erzberg,..? I’d love to, but the extreme side for me is something I would need to work on. I’m more Enduro GP pace.

What do you do to keep bike fit?

That's kind of where I excel. I used to be a personal trainer so I get a lot of it from that. I train about 4 to 5 times a week off the bike depending on if I’ve raced at the weekend or not. I get sports massage therapy as well from someone I know, they help me out with that and then I ride the bike ideally once during the week and then I either race or practice seriously at the weekend as well. So there’s quite a lot that goes into it. I also eat really clean, don’t drink and don’t smoke either.

Two stroke or four?
Two

KTM or Yamaha?
KTM

Winter or summer rider?
I love winter riding but I’m much quicker in the summer

How far can you wheelie?
I’m pretty bad at wheelies to be fair but probably around 20 meters or something like that, Not too far

Anything else?

The team at Torque Racing have been amazing. They’ve worked on my engine, worked on my forks, ordering  in  boots for me etc. They’re really really helping me out. With what I’m aiming to do this year, I physically couldn’t do without them. It would be impossible!
